Cathy Beres

Cathy came to yoga a year after the death of her beloved husband. Seeking some form of physical exercise for her extremely deconditioned body, she soon discovered that the yoga seemed to be working on more than her body, she noticed the fog of depression was beginning to lift. Three years later, Cathy found herself so committed to yoga that she made the decision to explore her passion further by becoming a yoga instructor. She completed the 200 hour PURE Yoga Teacher Training Program lead by Lourdes Paredes and Allison English at Equinox Chicago, in 2010. Cathy enjoys attending yoga workshops around Chicago, and is also a dedicated Bikram yoga practioner. Cathy is the proud owner of a crooked spine due to scoliosis and is a firm believer that anyone can do yoga! “Yoga helped bring me back to life. I’d like nothing more than to help others find hope and happiness in their lives through the practice of yoga.” Cathy enjoyed a successful thirty plus year career in advertising and marketing, and is currently a graduate student in the MFA program in creative writing at Northwestern University. She is the proud mother of two adult sons, auntie to many, a mentor to widows, and active volunteer advisory board member to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Brain Tumor Institute. In addition to yoga and writing, Cathy loves music and spends countless hours fine tuning her yoga play lists for her students to enjoy! Cathy would like to especially thank her first yoga instructor and mentor, Lourdes Paredes who planted the seeds and nurtured her passion for yoga.
